When is your Jackson office open?

We see patients Tuesday and Thursday from 8am to 6pm and Saturday from 8am to 1pm at 850 Laurence Ave Ste 2. The Saturday morning session suits people who cannot step away from work midweek. We are closed Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, so it is worth booking your next visit before you leave.

Which doctor will I see?

Dr. David Severance DC, ND or Dr. Moriah Severance DC, ND. They are husband and wife, both are chiropractors and naturopathic doctors, and both are taking new patients. Dr. Moriah is Webster Certified, so pregnancy visits are usually booked with her. If you would rather see one of them, say so when you book and we will match the day to the doctor.

How do I book an appointment?

Book yourself in online through our Jane App page at any hour, or call or text the office at 517-581-2785 and we will find you a slot. Tell us it is your first visit so we can hold the longer appointment a new patient exam needs. You do not need a referral to come and see us.

What should I bring to my first visit?

Bring a photo ID, your insurance card, and a list of the medications and supplements you take, since our naturopathic side of the practice will ask about both. If another provider has taken imaging or run bloodwork for this problem, bring the report. Wear something you can bend and move in comfortably.

We participate with many insurance plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, Aetna, and United Healthcare, plus several Medicaid plans (Molina, Meridian, Blue Cross Complete, Aetna Better Health, United Community Plan) and Medicare plans (Medicare Plus Blue Advantage, Aetna Medicare Advantage, Humana).

Which towns around Jackson do you serve?

Most of our patients live in Jackson, and others drive in from Spring Arbor, Grass Lake, Chelsea, Albion, Springport, Michigan Center, Parma, Vandercook Lake, Napoleon and Brooklyn. Our office is at 850 Laurence Ave Ste 2 in Jackson. We are one of three offices in the practice group, so if Holt or Lansing is closer to you, we can point you there instead.

How safe are chiropractic adjustments?

Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest nondrug, noninvasive forms of health care available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal complaints. Although chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects. The risks associated with chiropractic, however, are very small. Many patients feel immediate relief following chiropractic treatment, but some may experience mild soreness, stiffness or aching, just as they do after some forms of exercise. Current research shows that minor discomfort or soreness following spinal manipulation typically fades within 24 hours.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?

In most cases, no. You can book directly with our office without a referral, and most insurance plans do not require one. Some plan types, such as an HMO, may need a referral first. Call us and we will confirm the requirements for your specific plan.

Yes, in fact starting chiropractic care early in life can be beneficial for healthy development. Chiropractic adjustments are very gentle for infants and young children. Many parents seek our care for their children for concerns including colic, sports related injuries, growing pains, torticollis (wry neck), and more!

Can I still see a chiropractor if I am pregnant?

Yes, in fact many pregnant patients seek our care before, during, and after pregnancy to help manage pain during this phase of life. Chiropractic care is safe and effective for pregnancy.

What type of training is required to become a chiropractor?

Most chiropractic colleges require a 4 year undergraduate degree for admission. Chiropractic coursework takes 4 years to complete. The curriculum at the chiropractic college includes courses in basic sciences, clinical sciences, and an internship where students get hands-on experience diagnosing and treating patients. As chiropractic physicians we are required to maintain a license in the State of Michigan. The license requires us to stay up to date on the latest chiropractic information through continuing education and to maintain a CPR certification.

Why does my joint "pop" or "crack" when I get adjusted?

Chiropractic adjustments cause a change of pressure within the joint being adjusted. The change in pressure releases gas that causes the iconic popping noise.

Usually, yes. The consultation, the spinal and postural assessment and the plan discussion come first, and your doctor tells you then whether adjusting the same day fits what was found. Nothing is done before you have heard the findings and agreed to the plan.
