Family Chiropractor in Jackson, Michigan

One office and two doctors who know your whole household, from the newest baby in it to the grandparents.

One Office for Everyone Under Your Roof

A family chiropractor looks after every age in one place, and at our Laurence Avenue office that means Dr. David Severance DC, ND and Dr. Moriah Severance DC, ND seeing parents, children and grandparents in the same week. They are husband and wife, and both hold naturopathic degrees alongside their chiropractic ones, so what you eat and how you sleep come up as readily as your spine does. What changes between a six year old and a sixty year old is the pressure used and the questions asked first.

  • Babies and children: fingertip pressure, a parent in the room, and plain answers to whatever brought you in
  • Teenagers: the sport, the school bag and the hours on a screen sitting behind a sore neck or back
  • Adults: low back and neck trouble, pinched nerves, and the desk or shift work they came from
  • Grandparents: careful, unhurried work on stiff joints so you keep doing the things you like doing

Questions Families Ask Us

Which doctor will my family see?

Dr. David Severance DC, ND and Dr. Moriah Severance DC, ND, a husband and wife team who both practice at this office. Most families end up seeing both of them over time, and because they share one set of notes, neither has to be brought up to speed on your history.

How young is too young to be adjusted?

There is no lower age limit. An adjustment for a baby is a moment of fingertip pressure, nothing a parent would recognize from their own visit, and it is adapted to the size of the child throughout. You will always be told what is about to happen before it happens.

Can we book the whole family into one trip?

Yes. Say so when you book and we will put the appointments back to back. The office is open Tuesday and Thursday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 8am to 1pm, and the Saturday morning hours suit households that cannot get away midweek.

Does this have to carry on forever?

No. Plenty of complaints settle over a handful of visits and you get on with your life. Longer standing ones often do better with an occasional check afterwards. Your doctor will tell you which of those they think you are, and why, rather than leaving you to guess.

Is care different while someone is pregnant?

Yes. Dr. Moriah Severance DC, ND is Webster Certified, and visits are adapted to the trimester you are in and to how you feel that particular week. Many mothers carry on with us after the birth and bring the baby along. There is more on our prenatal care page.

What does a first visit look like for a child?

Much like an adult first visit, only shorter and with you in the room the whole time. We take a history, watch how your child moves, and explain what we find in language a parent can repeat at home. Nothing is done before you have heard what it is and agreed to it.

How far do families travel to reach you?

Our patients come from Jackson itself and from Spring Arbor, Grass Lake, Michigan Center, Vandercook Lake, Parma, Napoleon, Brooklyn, Albion, Springport and Chelsea. The office is at 850 Laurence Ave, Suite 2. If what you describe belongs with someone else, we will say so and point you in the right direction.

* To be clear about what that does and does not mean: chiropractic care is not a treatment for infectious disease. One small 2006 study recorded short-term movement in immune-related lab markers following spinal manipulation (Teodorczyk-Injeyan JA et al., J Manipulative Physiol Ther. 2006;29(1):14-21), and a 2021 systematic review judged that body of evidence too thin to carry immune-function claims (Chow N et al., JAMA Netw Open. 2021;4(4):e215493). We would rather say so on the page than leave the asterisk hanging.
