On the Day of
Your Visit

Your Consultation

We begin by listening. Dr. David or Dr. Moriah asks what brought you in, how long it has troubled you, what you have already tried, and what you want to get back to doing. Diet, sleep and stress belong in that picture too.

Your Examination

Then comes a spinal and postural assessment, narrated out loud so nothing is a mystery to you. X-rays are not part of every new patient exam here. We take them only when your history and findings say they would change the care we give.

Your Treatment Plan

Your doctor explains the findings in plain language and builds a plan around them with you. Because both doctors hold naturopathic degrees, that plan can reach past adjustments into nutrition, supplements or specialty testing when your body would gain from it.

Your Follow-Up

Care here is Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday mornings, so most patients book their next few visits before they leave. Each one is a checkpoint where we look at what has shifted, adapt the plan and space the visits out as your progress holds.

What to Expect During an Adjustment

Nothing on the table happens without your say-so, and nothing is forced. If a position is uncomfortable, say so and your doctor will change the contact. A few things worth knowing before your first adjustment:

An adjustment is a small, measured movement applied to a joint that has stopped moving the way it should, and your doctor tells you what is coming before it happens
The pop is not anything breaking. Pressure inside the joint changes and gas is released, which is where the sound comes from
Many patients feel relief the same day. Others feel mildly sore or stiff for a day afterwards, much as they would after a new form of exercise
Contact and force are scaled to the person on the table, from toddlers to grandparents, and Dr. Moriah is Webster Certified for care through pregnancy

Which days can I book a first visit at the Jackson office?

Tuesday and Thursday from 8am to 6pm, and Saturday from 8am to 1pm, at 850 Laurence Ave Ste 2. The Saturday session is there for patients who cannot step away from work midweek. Book on our Jane App page at any hour, or call or text 517-581-2785.

Will I be adjusted on the first visit?

Usually, yes. The consultation, the spinal and postural assessment and the plan discussion come first, and your doctor tells you then whether adjusting the same day fits what was found. Nothing is done before you have heard the findings and agreed to the plan.

If I am a new patient, are x-rays a requirement with the new patient exam?

X-rays are not required for all new patients at our office. X-ray necessity is determined based on the thorough history, exam, and clinical judgment at the new patient visit.

Can I ask for a particular doctor?

Yes. Dr. David Severance DC, ND and Dr. Moriah Severance DC, ND are husband and wife and both are taking new patients. Say which of them you would like when you book and we will match the day to the doctor. Pregnancy visits are usually booked with Dr. Moriah, who is Webster Certified.
